How did you get into this business?
We got into this business back in April 2009 by buying 200 emerald cedar trees from a local grower with the intention of planting them for homeowners throughout the Lower Mainland. At the time it was an unknown risk as we had never installed cedar trees for anyone before.
How did you get to where you are now?
We got to where we are now by using quality, grade ‘A’ trees, displaying professionalism in our work and by creating and nurturing relationships with different suppliers throughout the Lower Mainland.
In September 2009, we planted our first cedar field of 5000 cedar trees launching us into the nursery production industry. The intention was to lower our cost so that we could pass this savings along to our customers while also being able to directly manage the quality of the tree’s we provide/install. By Spring 2012 we will have grown to having roughly 40,000 trees in-ground.
What’s business like these days? Who do you service?
The cedar tree business is quite seasonal with the winter being the slow season. We primarily service the residential market with existing homes as our main buyers and new home construction making up the remainder.
What type of jobs are exciting for you to work on?
Each job is exciting tp us especially when our customers gain the privacy and/or sound barrier they desire to get more enjoyment from their yards. Our customers spend a great deal of money on their homes and having cedar tree installed can instantly improve the value of their homes.
Additionally, the natural look of the trees we provide bring a new element of colour and beautify each yard we work on which bring our customers much more satisfaction…and us too!
What do you offer, and don’t
We install all sorts of cedars including those from the Eastern White Cedar family like the ‘Smaragd’ (Emerald) and ‘Pyramidalis’. We also plant and install Western Red cedars like the ‘Emerald Giant”‘ and ‘Excelsa’.
We also offer other traditional landscaping services like:
- New shrub/tree/soil installations
- Turf Installations
- Tree Removal and Chipping
- Stump Grinding
- Shrub/Bush Removal
- Planter Box installations
- Small land excavations
We currently don’t offer any kind of ‘hardscaping’ services such as stone path installations.
What’s your vision for your business for the near future?
Our vision for this business is that more and more homeowners will become more conscious of the types of materials they use to improve their landscapes. Cedar trees offer a great opportunity for homeowners to ‘go- green’ when installing privacy blocks for the enjoyment of their yards. This will provide great growth opportunities for our company.
It is also our vision to focus more on new home construction as this compromises a large portion of the entire landscaping industry. By working alongside developers and contractors we will position ourselves well to take advantage of this growing segment.
